CAVA’s original
5-year research programme was made up of 6 strands. For further

October 1999 - May 2000
Develops the theoretical, conceptual and methodological frameworks
for the whole programme. Also reviews existing empirical research
on:
kinship, obligation and care; changes in households, work and welfare;
user-movements and grass-roots' organisations; existing welfare
strategies; and citizenship, democracy and welfare.

October
1999 - December 2003
Explores how people in Britain identify and fulfil their family
responsibilities in 4 different contexts:
1. Mothers, Care and Employment
2. Families after Divorce
3. Transnational Kinship
4. Friendship and Non-Conventional Partnerships

September
2000 - September 2003
Draws on research from a range of western welfare states, to mirror
the research concerns of Strands 3 and 5.

March
2000 - December 2003
Investigates the claims of grass-roots' organisations and trade
unions on issues affecting parenting and partnering, and the challenges
these make to the form and shape of social policy.

March
2003 - September 2004
Feeds research findings into Citizens' Dialogues and probes findings
through a survey with Leeds Citizens' Panel.
