An Evening of Inspiration
UTravelActive was pleased to welcome three excellent speaker to talk about their personal cycling achievements on Thursday 23rd February.
Jim Bird told the funny and heart warming story of how we persuaded his blind fun loving mate Billy to ride the Coast to Coast on a tandem. Gael Impiazzi amused us with her literary inspiration after learning to ride as an adult and how a whole new world opened up to her and her "Baacycle". Finally Phil Wheilden showed us breathtaking views of Scotland taken whilst his Border terriers slept in a range of luxury trailers. All goes to show that normal cycling is simple in comparison!
The books recommended by Gael are now in the Inspiration Library in the Hub as well as a number of recommended rides.
Bamboo Bike demonstration at the bike hub
The UTravelActive project at The University of Leeds and Leeds Met were pleased to welcome Yorkshire-based company Raw Bamboo Bikes to the bike hub last week. There was a queue outside the door of people wanting to have a test ride of the natural frame. Everyone commented on how smooth the bike was to cycle as well as how nice it looked. Students and staff had the chance to ask questions about how the bikes are made and how they stand up to crash conditions. Maybe in a few years all the Uni hire bikes will be bamboo frames!
