'Students into Schools' Modules
A number of academic schools and departments run modules which recognise the positive effect school experience can have on the academic results of the students involved. These modules allow students to contribute to their degree credits while raising the academic achievements and aspirations of pupils across West Yorkshire.
Modules require a substantial time-commitment, ranging from 20 to 60 hours school contact (depending on the subject). This can be spread over time done intensively as negotiated between the school and student. Each module varies in content but all would involve working as a classroom assistant (or coach, in the case of sports) and preparing a project or teaching resources for the school in which students are placed.

How to register for an accredited module for 2012-13
In order to enrol on an accredited module you need to do three things before you leave Leeds for the summer:
- Register your interest with the module leader in your department
- Complete an application form
- Complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check
1. Register your interest with the module leader
Most modules require you to attend a briefing after Easter outlining the content and aims of the module. You may be asked to simply give your name at this meeting in order to register interest or you may be required to complete a form stating why you wish to take the module. Please check with the module leader for details of the correct procedure for your module.
2. Complete an application form
The Module application form is available to download from the menu on the left. Please ensure you complete all sections. You will be required to give names and addresses of two referees who can comment on your suitability for working with children. These cannot be friends or family members, and they must have known you for at least 12 months.
Module applications should be sent to the Access Academy at:
Access Academy
177 Woodhouse Lane
Leeds
LS2 9JT
or e-mailed to accessacademy@leeds.ac.uk
3. Complete a CRB check
The Criminal Records Bureau check is a compulsory part of the registration process for an accredited module. Once you have submitted your module application form you will be sent two emails - one containing your login details for the online CRB site, the other with guidance on how to complete the form correctly. Please ensure you read the guidance before starting your check!
Once you have submitted your online form you will need to visit the Access Academy office with the documentation stated and to sign the physical copy of the form. This needs to be done before you leave Leeds for the summer as the CRB can take upwards of four weeks to be processed - placements cannot be guaranteed if you leave this until September to complete and your place on the module will be in serious danger!
You will not be allowed to take the module if you do not have an Access Academy CRB check.
If you have any questions about the accredited module application process please contact the Access Academy at accessacademy@leeds.ac.uk
