Access and Community Engagement

Corporate Social Responsibility

Most graduate employers now engage with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda. Alongside this the growth of higher education means there are greater numbers of students competing for graduate level jobs. Employers are increasingly asking potential employees to articulate their non-academic credentials and how they can demonstrate that they have applied
their transferable skills through activities such as volunteering.

The University of Leeds set up an innovative pilot programme in 2005 with Leeds University Business School. The programme brought together students, employers and a local community organisation to discuss CSR and then apply it through a joint community project.

The success of this scheme meant that it ran again in 2007 and was expanded to include the School of Law in. In 2009 the project supported the Involve club in Hunslet to landscape the community centre for NEET young children

There is scope to develop this programme further, so whether you are a student, academic or business and would like to set up a similar scheme in your subject area please contact Greg Miller, e-mail g.d.miller@adm.leeds.ac.uk or phone 0113 3431058.
