Regional Development and Regeneration
The University is increasingly involved in and has formed partnerships, spanning the public, private and voluntary sectors, to assist in the regeneration of the city and region.
ACE recently completed a dedicated programme of regeneration in the Harehills ward in Leeds. This was funded by the Higher Education Innovation fund and delivered a range of projects including
- Job Guarantee Scheme
- Small Grants scheme to support community and student projects
- Culture Kids run by West Yorkshire Police
Employability Training
The University supports the region in the provision of bespoke training courses. These award winning programmes include
- Amaze Yourself (enterprise support for incapacity benefit claimants)
- Grey Panther (45+ year old men long term unemployed)
- Rise (health and incapacity benefit claimants)
- Optimise (lone parents and carers)
The Leeds Hippos!
The University recently secured funding from the Heritage Lottery to deliver the Leeds Hippos project which will use local heritage to engage schools and parents in a project about climate change which will provide an exhibition stand for the opening of the new Leeds Museum in 2008.
