Community Strategy
The University first developed a community strategy in 2000 which led to the employment of a Community Relations Officer and the operation of a Neighbourhood Helpline.
In 2005 a series of public consultations were held to help define the review of the community strategy. As a result the University produced a new strategy and associated action plan.
Every year the strategy action plan is reviewed and presented at an open Community and Housing Forum to ensure that progress is being made and that the priorities remain relevant. The update is our most recent action plan.
The strategy action plan is reviewed annualy at an open public forum. The 2010 forum will be held in October with details to follow. To view an update on the actions and issues raised at the 2009 Forum click here
The Strategy is based on 3 key themes:
Communication
To develop a clear and transparent communication and information flow both from and into the University and the community
Community Cohesion
To continue to foster positive relations and dialogue between the University, students and longer term local residents through collaborative projects that address local needs.
Matching Resources
Through a series of actions the University is seeking to maximise the use of resources in terms of facilities, equipment as well as human resources (staff and students) to support the social economic and cultural development of the city.
Partnership cuts across all three key themes and the University seeks to develop new programmes of activity with many key stakeholders across the private, public and voluntary sectors.
