St George’s Fields
7:00pm onwards

Explore the University after dark and discover, at the heart of its campus, the hidden park with a long and sombre history.
During the course of just over 100 years, nearly 100,000 people were interred in what is now a quiet & peaceful park. Most of the tombstones and monuments have been cleared away but some remain, and they can tell us the most interesting stories…  For one night only, the path through St George’s Fields will be lit to lead visitors to the Chapel at its centre. Once there, our guides will help you discover the secret history of St George’s Fields and of one of its most famous residents…Pablo Fanque, the first black circus proprietor in Britain.

GHOST STORIES
Brotherton Library, Parkinson Building
7:15pm, 8:15pm, 9:15pm
In the atmospheric surroundings of the historic Brotherton Room in the heart of the Brotherton Library, experience the spine-tingling thrill of classic, dramatised ghost stories.

Free tickets for all performances will be released at 6:30pm at the Brotherton Library reception desk on a first-come, first-served basis.  There is a restriction of 4 tickets per person. People who turn up on spec without a ticket may be able to get a place if ticket holders are late or don’t show, but this will probably be for the lucky few (last year an estimated 200 people were turned away).  Performances start promptly so ticket holders who arrive late for performances may find their place has been given to someone else.

NARCISSUS
The Edge, Swimming Pool
7:30pm, 8:00pm, 8:30pm
"When as glass
again the rippling waters smoothed, and when such beauty in the stream the youth observed,
no more could he endure. As in the flame the yellow wax, or as the hoar-frost melts in early morning beneath the genial sun;
so did he pine away, by love consumed, and slowly wasted by a hidden flame".
("Echo and Narcissus", Ovid)
"Narcissus" is a 15-minute site-specific performance at the University's new swimming pool complex "The Edge". It explores issues of beauty, narcissism and self-obsession. Contemporary solipsism will be juxtaposed with conventional social behaviours in closed environments. "Narcissus" uses water as a major feature in the performance. Students from the School of Performance and Cultural Industries (University of Leeds) will work with young athletes to create a new work of visual beauty underscored by a haunting soundtrack.
Director: Katy Rudd
Producer: George Rodosthenous
Tickets can be reserved and collected via stage@leeds until 6pm on the day. Thereafter, tickets can be collected at The Edge.
