ACUMeN is a collaboration between the School of Healthcare and the Academic Section of Musculoskeletal Disease in the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine, both in the University of Leeds and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. It is comprised of nurses from the University and the Acute Trust, representatives from the medical and therapy staff and service users.
The primary aim of the unit is to generate, disseminate and apply knowledge for the improvement of nursing practice and patient outcomes within the specific area of musculoskeletal nursing. It also includes multidisciplinary work where appropriate.
Programme of Work
The work of the unit is firmly rooted in practice and the initial focus is in the area of rheumatology nursing. The collaborative programme has 3 integrated domains; research, education and practice. A core feature of research projects is an emphasis on the dissemination and implementation of research findings as well as the generation of new knowledge.
