Developing Clinical Practice in Rheumatology

To develop the clinical practice domain of ACUMeN, the clinical rheumatology services have begun to establish themselves as a Practice Development Unit (PDU). Currently this encompasses Wards 2 and 8 (Day Case Unit) at Chapel Allerton Hospital, the nurse specialists and the therapy services.

The PDU development is being supported by the Centre for the Development of Nursing Policy and Practice (CDNPP) at the University of Leeds and therefore also forms part of the National PDU Network run by the CDNPP.

The aims of the Rheumatology PDU are to:

  • Put the patient at the centre of the activity
  • Hear all voices and ideas
  • Involve all of the multidisciplinary team
  • Encourage practice development
  • Respond to changes
  • Encourage incremental improvement

The Rheumatology Practice Development Unit passed its Stage One Accreditation and is still ongoing.

The PDU presented a poster at the EULAR International Conference in 2005
