Details

Emma's friends who live in the same Hall say she is isolating herself in her room and appears to be awake all night and sleeping through the day. When Emma does emerge from her room, she is seen carrying a bible and observed muttering to herself. If she does speak to anyone, her comments are always related to religion with a specific reference to either 'good' or 'evil'. Emma has also moved her own portable TV into a communal room, as she is worried about 'voices' she is hearing and thinks they are coming from the TV.

Options

Emma is unaware of any change in her character and personality. Therefore it may be difficult for Emma to seek assistance herself.

It could be useful for friends to check out their concerns with other friends to see if they have noticed changes as well. It could also be helpful to seek the advice of a hall warden or tutor.

Most importantly anyone concerned about her should seek the advice of a doctor at the Leeds Student Medical Practice, who could visit Emma, in the Hall of Residence if an emergency situation developed.

Wherever possible friends, tutors and wardens should try to respectfully support Emma and assist her in getting the help she requires, with her agreement if at all possible.
