Details

Steve's parents have recently divorced. Steve is surprised how hard the divorce has hit him, especially now that he is not in contact with his father. Steve feels unable to contact him as it was his actions that led to the marriage break-up. Steve was close to his father and it was him who encouraged Steve to take up law.

Steve has always been used to a settled home life. Yes, his parents argued but no more than other parents. It seems they decided to divorce when he came to university. Steve has been unable to discuss these matters with his friends and has been drinking heavily, sometimes on his own, to suppress his own anxious and guilty feelings.
