Language ZoneThe Language Zone is a language learning resource centre open to all students and staff of the University of Leeds. It is located on the 2nd floor at the South end of the Parkinson Building, and provides resources for independent language learning for students enrolled on language courses, and people studying on their own.
The Language Zone has an extensive range of learning materials covering more than 45 languages, and a large study area. You can search and browse all the materials through the Library catalogue, and more information is available on the Language Zone pages in the VLE. Just drop in and our staff will be happy to help you find what you need. You can also book a one-to-one appointment with a language learning adviser, if you wish.
The Language Zone offers multiple language learning opportunities:
- The Language Groups Programme is a great way to meet new people, teach and practise speaking and listening in a supportive group, and learn things about a language and culture you might not find in formal classes.
- The Tandem at Leeds programme is a 1-to-1 language opportunity where 2 students help each other progress on their language learning journey.
- The Language Exchange Scheme allows language learners to get in touch with native speakers for conversation practice, offering practice in their own language in exchange for practice in their target language. Please come to the Language Zone to sign up.
- Details of events in the Language Zone, such as Conversation Club, can be found on the VLE.
