Study abroad

student on residence abroad

The following information is about study abroad opportunities for Leeds students. If you are a visiting or exchange student from outside the UK wishing to spend a semester or year in the School of English, please see our visiting student pages.

As a student on one of our degree programmes (single or joint honours) you have the opportunity to spend a year abroad as part of your Leeds degree. Following successful completion of years 1 and 2, you can spend your third year abroad, after which you return to Leeds for your final year (level 3). The year abroad can be spent at any of the institutions the School or the University has an exchange agreement with.

Read more about studying abroad from one of our current final-year students.

Opportunities outside Europe

The Study Abroad Office looks after placements in North America, Australia and elsewhere outside Europe. Please see the Study Abroad website for details of where you can go, and other relevant information.

For students already at Leeds, further information and application forms are available in the English Organisation on the VLE. If you have any queries regarding study abroad, please feel free to contact Mr Burkhard Hauder.
