Teaching and assessment

Teaching is through a combination of lectures, seminars and tutorials, depending on the module.

The Department's policy is to encourage as much participation in discussion of philosophical issues as possible. The University's Virtual Learning Environment also offers opportunities for online discussion of topics.  

Module assessment

Typically modules are assessed via assignment, essay and / or an exam. Some modules are also assessed through seminar participation or online quizzes. 

Dissertation

The dissertation provides you with the opportunity to pursue a topic in depth through independent research.  A member of academic staff will be allocated to you as your supervisor and will provide you with guidance and support throughout the dissertation stage of the course.
