World leading research

Our world leading research centres include Aesthetics, Metaphysics and Mind, History and Philosophy of Science, Religion and Public Life, Ethics and Metaethics, and Philosophy of Religion. We are also home to the Museum of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine, which we actively use in some teaching and for research, working closely with colleagues across the University in Medicine, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering and Business.

An international school

Our international partnerships and collaborations, across Australia, Hong Kong, Canada and the USA to mainland Europe, means that we receive many internationally renowned visiting speakers throughout the academic year and you will get the opportunity meet with them and talk about your ideas. We regularly host large scale international conferences and dedicated international workshops. We have a large and lively postgraduate community, with students coming from Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America, as well as the UK.

A strong postgraduate community

Our strong research culture encourages debate at all levels. Our students enjoy talking about their ideas with each other and run their own student postgraduate seminar in addition to the standard research seminars for all staff and postgraduates. We offer a relaxed and friendly environment where staff and students get to know one another and encourage each other in their intellectual journey.
