Funding for undergraduate study

Myrtle Boultwood Scholarships 2012

Nine scholarships are available annually to new UK-resident applicants starting in 2012 only, spread across three academic departments including the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. The scholarships are worth up to £1,500 per year for each year of a full-time undergraduate degree, provided that full UK fees are payable to the University of Leeds.

To qualify to be considered for a Myrtle Boultwood Scholarship applicants should:

  • Be eligible to receive the full UK maintenance grant (i.e. come from a household where the annual income is £25,000 or below).
  • Have no prior experience of higher education.
  • Be entering in September 2012 as a full-time, home-rated undergraduate on any of the single or joint honours degree courses in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. See list here

The scholarships are highly competitive and short-listing takes into account a range of indicators which may show that an applicant is from a less-advantaged background. Some additional consideration will be given to participation in the Access to Leeds Scheme and other access programmes, annual household income level, and being part of the first generation of your family to enter University. Outside interests and accomplishments, academic potential and personal circumstances will also be taken into account by the judging panels. Priority will also be given to applicants who are liable for the full £9,000 fees and are not receiving a subsidy from outside the University.

As we have a limited number of scholarships to grant, there is no guarantee on application that you will receive an award even if you meet all the eligibility criteria.  However, we will also consider you for any other of our pre-entry scholarships where you meet the criteria, and if you meet all the criteria for the Myrtle Boultwood Scholarship but are unsuccessful, you will likely receive some funding through the University's automatic funding package.

Deadline for completed application forms: 10 February 2012

The Myrtle Boultwood Scholarships are managed through Access and Community Engagement. For further information or an application form, contact the Undergraduate Scholarships Team at ugscholarships@leeds.ac.uk. Application forms are also available to download.
