The Workshop Theatre

The Workshop Theatre is home to the academic study of Theatre Studies in the School of English at the University of Leeds. Established in 1968, its MA in Theatre Studies was the first postgraduate programme of its kind in Great Britain.

The WT currently offers an undergraduate Single Honours degree programme in English Literature and Theatre Studies, and an MA in Theatre and Global Development. The Workshop Theatre also supervises research students to doctoral level (including practice-based research).

Our current practical facilities include two fully-equipped theatre spaces, in addition to smaller rehearsal studios. Professional companies who have recently performed here include Tim Crouch's News from Nowhere (UK), Cupola Bobber (US), the National Theatre of Ghana.

The WT is an active member of SCUDD (The Standing Conference of University Drama Departments) and its staff are active in TaPRA (The Theatre and Performance Research Association)
