Arts Research Scholarships

These prestigious scholarships are offered to 5 first year students to work with academic staff on their current research projects. You'll get to work on communicating their findings to the wider community, as well as acting as an ambassador and being invited to great events across the University and the city. Plus successful applicants receive an honorarium of £5,000 for the year.

Final year BA Classical Civilisation student Timothy completed a project in 2012 entitled 'Classics in the Community'. Find out more about how the Scholarship supplemented his degree.

Employment as a student guide

As a Faculty of Arts student you will have the opportunity to work as a paid student guide in lots of different events. We employ student guides to help us organise and deliver events for local schools, such as taster days, revision days, and summer schools. Student guides share their subject knowledge in academic taster sessions, take school children on tours of the campus and assist in general University open days. These opportunities provide you with excellent transferable skills and are great for your CV, particularly if you're considering a career in teaching or working with children.

Peer Mentoring

Once you have completed your first year you'll have the chance to mentor first year students and pass on all the tips and tricks of living and studying in Leeds. This is a responsible role to take on and you will get full training. For your time and work you are awarded a certificate from the University which is highly valued by employers as it demonstrates your ability to manage your time, communicate effectively, and work with others.
