Professional Ethics Network (PEN)

The Professional Ethics Network brings together individuals from business and the professions to discuss current, real-life ethical issues. PEN members meet at regular evening workshops during term time at the University of Leeds, which feature guest speakers presenting on a range of topics.

Research Seminars

The Centre hosts an inter-disciplinary research seminar during term-time. Speakers are invited to present on a broad range of disciplines related to ethics, for approximately half an hour, which is then followed by an informal discussion. Where available audio recordings of these sessions are made available on iTunesU. These sessions are designed to help all involved to benefit from each other's expertise. The sessions run from 12noon on Wednesday afternoons.

Ilkley Heath Care Ethics Colloquium

Each January the Centre runs an informal weekend colloquium on selected themes in Biomedical and Health Care ethics to which all students on the course and former students are invited. It has attracted external speakers such as Suzanne Uniacke, Susan Mendus, Heather Draper, Gordon Graham, Ruth Chadwick, Simon Lee and Helen Watt.

Medical Ethics Evening

Every October, the IDEA Centre host a free Medical Ethics evening. Students and alumni from the IDEA Centre Biomedical and Health Care programmes have the opportunity to present their research, followed by student- and staff-led discussions on the topics raised.
