Institute for Medieval Studies Taught MA

The Institute for Medieval Studies offers two taught masters programmes, which are also an excellent preparation for further studies and a range of careers. Our flagship MA programme – Medieval Studies – is an interdisciplinary course that was established in the 1960s under the auspices of Prof. John Le Patourel  and produced generations of successful academics and other professionals living and working across the world. The programme provides intensive skills training and in-depth understanding of medieval culture and society through interdisciplinary approaches. The MA in Medieval History is a single-subject MA programme particularly suitable for these wanting to focus on medieval history and acquire advanced research skills.

Both degree programmes share core modules and involve 60 credits of language training. The difference between them is that the Medieval Studies programme allows for the study of medieval vernacular languages and modules in English and History of Art. It tends to attract applicants who did not major in History as undergraduates.
