Thursday: Optional visit to the Liddle Collection, Brotherton Library, University of Leeds

From 15.00-17.00 on Thursday 17th March, there will be an introduction to the Liddle Collection at the Brotherton Library, University of Leeds

The collection holds a vast amount of material – private papers, artefacts and publications relating to the First World War.

Friday and Sunday: Resistance to War 1914-1924 Conference

On Friday and Sunday, the conference will be held in the Rose Bowl, Leeds Beckett University.
 
On these days, we will be exploring the local, national and international experiences and present-day legacies of war resistance, with Keynotes by June Hannam on local activist Isabella Ford and Benjamin Ziemann on German opposition to the war.

Saturday: Conscientious Objectors Event

From 11.30 to 17.00 on Saturday 19th March 2016, there will be a Conscientious Objectors and Resistance to the First World War event aimed at community groups and local historians as well as academics.

The emphasis on this day is on the experience, representation and commemoration of the Conscientious Objectors with a panel including Cyril Pearce, Lois Bibbings, Julian Putkowski and Martin Crick.  Chloe Mason, granddaughter of Alice Wheeldon, will be discussing her family’s history.

The venue for this day is Leeds City Museum, located on Millennium Square in Leeds City centre.
