How to find us

The School of English is near the heart of the University of Leeds campus, and a short, straightforward walk from the centre of Leeds. Here’s how to find us.

On campus

The main entrance to the university campus is in front of the Parkinson Building, which has a distinctive white stone tower. Facing that building, turn left and walk down Cavendish Road for 200 metres. Just before the end of the road, you’ll see a Victorian terrace to your right. The main entrance to the School of English is in the last house in that terrace, with a blue door.

To find the School from elsewhere on campus, see the campus map.

From Leeds rail station

It’s a simple walk of about fifteen minutes from Leeds rail station to the School of English. After passing through the ticket barriers, walk up the concourse to your left, and out on to City Square. Take the road on the left-hand side of the grand building (the former Post Office) in front of you – Quebec Street. After 150 metres take the first right, on to King Street. Continue on this road – which changes its name to East Parade, Calverley Street, and Willow Terrace Road – all the way to the university campus.

Arriving on campus, turn right after about fifty metres, opposite the entrance to the Edge sports centre, and pass underneath the long building in front of you. Turn left, then uphill to the right in front of the domed building. You’ll see a Victorian terrace to your left. The main entrance to the School of English is in the first house in that terrace.

By bus

The most convenient bus route from the station to the university is the no. 1 towards Holt Park. Leave the station for City Square as above, and go down the right-hand side of the old Post Office. This is Infirmary Street; you’ll need bus stop B. The no. 1 bus runs a frequent service, and the journey should take less than ten minutes. Alight beside the Parkinson Building, and follow the directions in the first section above.

From central Leeds

From anywhere in central Leeds, it will be easy to find your way to Millennium Square. Once there, and facing the large white building with your back to the outdoor television screen, the road to the School of English is on your left. Follow it for 400 metres, over a small roundabout, to reach the university campus. Arriving on campus, turn right after about fifty metres, opposite the entrance to the Edge sports centre, and pass underneath the long building in front of you.
