Taught MA programmes offer a stimulating and supportive working environment with close individual attention. They provide an excellent grounding for further research study (MPhil and PhD) or related careers ranging from the civil service to computing and from law to journalism.

Our MA programmes combine a core set of modules with a wide range of options, which allow you to specialise according to your interests. You also complete a research-based dissertation.

All our MA programmes are available for full- or part-time study.

The MA Director for each programme will be happy to answer any academic queries you may have. You can find the contact details for all of the MA directors on our Contact us page.

You can find information about our programmes on the pages listed below. If you would like more detailed information you can find this on coursefinder.

Compulsory modules

These modules cover the topics and skills essential for your degree programme and provide a firm basis for further specialisation in particular areas.

Dissertation modules

We offer the opportunity to complete either a 60 credit dissertation of 12,000 - 15,000 words or a 90 credit extended dissertation of 18,000 - 20,000 words. This will be an independent and critical piece of work on a selected topic within your chosen field of study.

Optional modules

These specialist modules enable you to develop and pursue areas of particular interest. We offer a wide variety of optional modules which allow you to specialise according to your interests.
