We pride ourself on our student orientated approach, with supportive members of staff committed to helping and encouraging each student in the department to fulfil their potential and become confident and competent communicators.

All of our members of staff are trained teachers who either hold a PGCE, Staatsexamen or the University of Leeds ULTA-2 award.

In the most recent national assessments, learning and teaching in German was graded 'Excellent'. In the most recent National Student Survey (2009), 94% of our finalists expressed themselves satisfied with the quality of our teaching. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (2008), we were placed joint second in the country after Oxford, with 25% of our research described as "world-leading in terms of orginality, signifiance and rigour."
