This web-journal is designed to showcase some of the best work achieved by our students at all levels and across the breadth of our modules. Click on the links below to get an idea of what our students can do!

Modules taught in the Department of German relate to the research interests of members of staff, who, in many of the options we offer, have written internationally acclaimed books on the subject areas in question - see our research pages for more information.

The individual issues of the web journal are linked at the bottom of this page.

Issue 5: 2010

At Leeds we pride ourselves on research-led teaching and the 2010 German studies undergraduate dissertations are an excellent example of this in practice. The aim of the final year dissertations is to allow students to develop and demonstrate their ability to write an extended piece of work in German, drawing on some aspect of their programme or of their experience of life in Germany which they have found to be of special interest.

Issue 4: 2009

This issue showcases a variety of student work from language and cultural studies modules from Levels 1 to 3.

  • German Expressionist Poetry (Approaching German Culture) Lucy Hofford
  • Vorurteile in Deutschland und Großbritannien (Core Language 2) Greg James
  • M - eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder (German Cinema) Tom Simmon
  • Studiengebühren - Pro und Kontra (Core Language 3) Elise Jackson
