Residence abroad

The experience of a lifetime: your residence abroad in Italy

Italian residence abroad"This photo shows Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples from a viewing platform in Sorrento. It captures my love for Italy and for Naples and shows one of the most famous natural landmarks in the world.”  Robert Povall, French and Italian

The residence abroad is one of the most important parts of the degree programme at Leeds. It gives you the opportunity to become fluent in Italian, to get to know Italian culture and the Italian way of life.

Students taking the term abroad can either attend an Italian language course at the Scuola Dante Alighieri, Rome, or apply to do a work placement.

Our year abroad schemes meet individual needs. Our students can choose among a wide array of opportunities ranging from work placement to study abroad.

It is also an important personal experience: living in a foreign country, you will acquire confidence and independence, and make many new friendships. It also adds an international dimension to your CV which is impressive to employers.

Most of our students spend their year abroad at an Italian university; we have ERASMUS agreements with thirteen universities. However, there are other ways to spend the year abroad: an increasing number of students work as language assistants in Italian schools, and it is also possible to arrange your own employment.
