'I studied Italian at Leeds as both an undergraduate and postgraduate. My MA by Research and my PhD focused on the writings of Primo Levi. The level of support I received was excellent and my supervisor was very encouraging and enthusiastic. Whilst completing my doctoral research, I was given the opportunity to teach a number of classes part-time. This was an invaluable experience which allowed me to develop personally and professionally. I look back very fondly on my time at Leeds and I'd recommend it highly to prospective students. I am now Publishing Executive at Maney Publishing, where I work on the language, literature and culture books and journals, including Italian Studies and The Italianist.' (Gemma, MA by Research on Primo Levi, 2004-05; PhD on Primo Levi, 2005-08)

'Why do an MA by research in Italian at Leeds? Because it's the only way to study the things that truly interest you most. Where else could you find students of Dante, Fellini and Zucchero all doing the same course?' (Rachel, part-time MA by Research on Italian Popular Music, 2004-06)

'The course offered by Leeds represents an ideal route into postgraduate work. The flexibility and independence afforded to the student sets the course apart from taught MA courses, and acts as a perfect introduction to the self-motivated nature of doctoral research. It allowed me to explore in substantial depth a specific aspect of my undergraduate work which I already knew would interest me, and producing a 30,000-word dissertation felt like a significant achievement and a real advancement from the nature of undergraduate work. Furthermore, the support and supervision offered by the department were excellent. I would unequivocally recommend the MA to any student considering postgraduate study, either as an platform for doctoral study or as a self-contained master's course for those wishing to stretch themselves further.' (Tristan, MA by Research on Dante, 2005-06)
