Centre for History and Philosophy of Science

Welcome to the Centre for HPS

History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) at Leeds is one of the foremost centres for the subject in Britain, with eight permanent and several fixed-term staff, and a large and international body of research postgraduates.

Research in the Centre embraces many aspects of the history of science, technology, and medicine, from the sixteenth century to the present day.  The Centre is also at the forefront of current research in the philosophy of science, including structural realism, the nature and role of models in science, the nature of scientific representation, and integrated HPS.  It is also home to a new and rapidly developing Museum of the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine
