About Professor Jörn Dosch

Jörn Dosch is Professor of Asia Pacific Studies and Director of the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Leeds, UK. He was previously a Fulbright Scholar at the Asia/Pacific Research Center, Stanford University, and a Lecturer at the University of Mainz, Germany. Dosch has published some 70 books and academic papers on East and Southeast Asian politics and international relations, including the monograph The Changing Dynamics of Southeast Asian Politics, Lynne Rienner 2006.  Recent research projects have focused on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the institutional aspects of regionalism; relations between Asia and Latin America; non-traditional security in Southeast Asia; sub-regional co-operation in the Mekong Valley; the impact of democratisation on foreign policy making in Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand; Vietnam's reform process and foreign relations and a critical evaluation of Western approaches to the promotion of democracy and good governance in Southeast Asia. Dosch has been a visiting professor or fellow at, among others, the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Singapore; Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Jakarta; Parahyangan University, Bandung; De La Salle and Ateneo Universities, Manila and Prince of Songkla University, Pattani/Thailand. He has also worked as a consultant for the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Commission, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam.
