Biography

Terry Bradford grew up in Tamworth, Staffs. After a year working in Belgium, he studied French with Spanish here at the University of Leeds. He continued his studies at Leeds, doing doctoral research on Raymond Jean and representations of "l'intellectuel". He was awarded his PhD in 1998, whilst working as a temporary lecturer at the University College of Ripon & York St John.

Thereafter, following three years' lecturing at the University of Wales, Lampeter, he returned to Leeds as a part-time tutor. He has taught on a wide range of courses, embracing cinema, fiction popular and classical, professional translation, interpreting, and French for Academic/Specific Purposes.

In 2003-04, Terry took a year out to teach English in Senegal. As well as teaching, he now works freelance as an interpreter and translator, working mostly in the contexts of health, law, and social services with asylum-seekers and refugees. He enjoys poetry, crosswords, chess, film, and pubs.
