Biography

After a degree in modern Italian literature from the University of Cagliari (1998), I moved to the University of Reading, where I completed a Ph.D. in Italian studies (2005). The thesis focused on the work of Luigi Meneghello and Andrea Camilleri, within the general framework of multilingualism in modern Italian novels; my research approach integrates stylistics, narratology, and problems of identity raised by multicultural diversity. I taught in Exeter in 2004/05, before moving to Leeds in 2006. In 2008 I was awarded a Faculty of Arts Teaching Development Prize.

I have published on multilingual literature, the language and style of contemporary Italian writers, the literary canon, modern dialect poetry, Sardinian literature, and twentieth-century women's writing. I also have an interest in contemporary Italian history, with a main focus on the Resistance and on social unrest in the 1970s. I have organized and contributed to international conferences in Italy, England, Belgium, and France.
