Matthew Noah Smith joined the department in June 2012. Previously, he was a member of the Yale University Department of Philosophy.
Matthew received his PhD from the University of North Carolina in 2004.
Matthews primary area of research is moral and political philosophy. In particular, I approach moral and political questions from the perspective of practical agency embedded in a social world. This involves working within the philosophy of action as well as drawing from current research in psychology.
Matthew also has researched and published on issues in international ethics, including the problem of political violence.
