Eleanor Groves

BA Economics and German

Summary: Eleanor shares her top tips for new students and why she chose Leeds.

Why did you decide to study here?

The city and university always appealed to me but the flexibility of the joint honours courses was also really attractive. In the end the friendly atmosphere during the open days and the post application visit days confirmed my decision to study at Leeds.

What are your top-tips for new students?

Don’t panic; it may all seem a bit crazy at the start but you will soon settle in.

Try new things including, clubs activities and societies and meet as many people as possible.

What do you plan to do when you graduate?

I have no idea yet!

What's the best thing about Leeds University?

Having all you need on campus but still being within 10 minutes walk of the city centre.

What's the best thing about your course?

Being able to study both Economics and German and getting the most out of both courses. The choice of elective modules as well as the integrated year abroad placement is also really good.

Give an example of one of your favourite things to do in Leeds.

I love going into Leeds, or Hyde Park, with friends for breakfast or a quiet drink.

How is University different from 6th Form or College?
It’s up to you to organise your workload and decide on the amount of work to do; the lecturers don’t check to make sure you have done this every week. The more effort that you put in the better you will do!
