Summary: Hannah gives an insight about what it's like studying English Literature and Theatre Studies at Leeds. She also talks about her forthcoming year abroad studying in Valencia.
I chose this course as it offers great versatility and diversity. The range of literature modules is astounding and the Theatre Studies programme caters for a variety of interests, with excellent teaching in both theory and practical sessions. This course also provides good opportunities to improve skills from directorial, technical and performance perspectives. Overall, the literature and theatre modules complement one another very well and often allow for a deeper, more 'three dimensional' understanding of the topic being studied.
In my opinion, one of the best things about studying here at Leeds is that you're right in the heart of a vibrant and cultural city. Another is the wealth of opportunities offered by the societies, whether it is relevant to your course, such as writing for the Leeds Student or joining the excellent TG (Theatre Group), or not. A couple of personal highlights were participating in a workshop by the physical theatre company Complicite and performing in a production of Black Comedy, both thanks to TG. As TG is completely student-run it allows for experience in all areas and I'm now far less ignorant about all the small but vital components needed for a successful production. I've loved my time at Leeds and am very much looking forward to spending my third year at the University of Valencia on the Erasmus scheme.
