I am interested in how fin de siècle literature reflected the growing anxiety surrounding constructions of masculinity. My thesis looks at how male novelists operated within an area of literature increasingly seen as feminine, examining their work both as symptom of, and succour for, this and wider gender anxieties.
I am also currently working on papers on the poetry of Tony Harrison and Simon Armitage, and on the work of V. S. Naipaul.
