About BioNet TLTP

Funded under phase 1 of the Teaching and Learning Technology Programme, BioNet is an exciting project that is designed to allow computer-based teaching to move from the domain of the dedicated enthusiasts into the mainstream of teaching in Biology and Preclinical Medicine. It is not about the production of multimedia epics with glossy presentations or 'front ends' designed by committee but rather the transfer of pre-existing courseware, ideas and applications between BioNet sites. The activities of BioNet are the sum of the activities of its individual members and the project is co-ordinated in response to the needs of the membership by a part-time director and a management committee with one member from each of the three lead sites.

The pages accessible through the links below and the Software Compendium encapsulate the record of achievement and progress for all our members. One might be tempted, on the basis of the extensive material in the Software Compendium, to believe that BioNet is about software production. Surprisingly, this is only incidental to our real purpose. What BioNet is really about is the integration of IT-based teaching material into the mainstream of timetabled courses in order to improve the quality of learning in the face of diminishing resources and increased undergraduate load.
