Teaching on the Web

Here are some examples of how it is possible to implement highly interactive learning resources as WWW services.

DIY Glycolysis

This application was created using ordinary HTML documents but they are linked together in a way that creates a challenging problem solving task.

Monosaccharide Browser

This application uses clickable images to create a way of browsing through related molecular structures.

Case Notes

This is a sophisticated application that runs as a program on the server. It is highly interactive and makes use of the forms capability of HTML to enable user selections.

Student Support

It is possible to use WWW to provide information and support for the CAL software you use. The utility w3launch allows you to implement software menus on your WWW pages. Students can read introductory notes for a piece of software and then select a hot link to run it.

More general support can be provided to students such as discussion forums, multiple choice question paper etc. For an example of such student support pages (currently under construction) see the University of Leeds, department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Undergraduate Home Page
