Increasing numbers of teaching staff are keen to make fuller use of Communications and Information Technology (C&IT) in module delivery, but are currently held back from doing so by a lack of specific support. The University was successful in securing HEFCE funding, as part of the Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund allocation, for a programme of faculty based support of C&IT in the curriculum. This will be used to provide teaching staff with the help and expertise they need to make substantial new and enhanced use of C&IT in the curriculum.
The aim of the project is to accelerate the take up of C&IT to enhance student learning and teaching delivery on a module by module basis. The funding has provided Project Officers for a period of two years. The Project Officers are working with teaching staff to draw up and implement plans for targeted developments in a range of specific modules. Examples include: the use of electronic assessment; web-based distance learning initiatives; the use of the various facilities within the Nathan Bodington Building and other web-based learning environments; the development of electronic teaching materials and courseware; initiatives to improve access for the disabled; the use of web-based tools to help identify plagiarism, and much more.
