The Case Project is piloting a nine month Document Delivery service. This pilot will investigate the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of sharing, through electronic document delivery, the legal collections of the seven Higher Education institutions in the Yorkshire & Humberside region which hold law collections. This service is due to start in January 2002. The institutions involved are:
University of Huddersfield
University of Hull
University of Leeds
Leeds Metropolitan University
University of Lincoln
University of Sheffield
Sheffield Hallam University
What is document delivery?
Document Delivery is the process by which people can have access to documents (i.e. journal articles) not held by their own institution. The user requests the item at their own institution and that institution makes a request to an institution that does hold the document. The holding institution then sends a copy to the requesting institution electronically.
Back to topHow will this be done electronically?
Through Ariel software and scanning hardware, it is possible for the holding institution to scan a document and send it to the requesting institution in electronic format. The requesting institution can then convert the document into PDF format (see below for downloading free Adobe Acrobat software) and send it on as an e-mail attachment directly to the requester within that institution.
Back to topWhich document delivery requests will the Case Project meet?
The pilot aims to meet the requests of legal researchers and academic staff at the seven institutions involved. Items listed on the Case Catalogue will be available. Due to current licensing restrictions this service does not extend to items on electronic databases such as Lexis or Westlaw.
Back to topHow much will it cost?
This pilot offers a free service to legal academic staff and researchers at the seven institutions.
