The Network

The network will run from 1 December 2004 to 30 November 2006.

CCASE-Net is a broad-ranging network which addresses how artists, scientists and engineers can collaborate effectively on projects which address challenging issues in more than one of these three areas. The danger is that practitioners in these three areas are actually doing fundamentally different things (perhaps artists make questions but do not want answers, whereas scientists do want answers). It would achieve success if it could propose a paradigm for the assessment of interdisciplinary work which was applicable to PhD students and research projects.

Unique features

To bring together a wide range of expertise in different disciplines, especially Visual Arts and Earth/Environmental Sciences in a series of workshops designed to stimulate debate and new collaborative projects

Challenges

To develop projects in which both scientists and artists generate outcomes that go beyond the establish parameters in which each normally operate

Risks

To proceed into territory where the qualitative measures are undefined

Measures of success

To propose a succinct set of qualitative criteria for cross disciplinary art/science collaborations
