Welcome to the Centre for Practice-Led Research in the Arts
The Centre for Practice-Led Research in the Arts (CePRA) is based in the Faculty of Performance, Visual Arts and Communications at the University of Leeds. It brings together scholars from across the arts disciplines whose research employs practice-led methodologies.
Practice-led research is by no means confined to the arts, but the Centre responds to a particular need within the arts disciplines to debate the framing, articulation and documentation of practice-led research methods. CePRA provides a forum for leading international academics in music, performance, design, communications and the visual arts to explore these issues within and across disciplines, and in interdisciplinary contexts. It develops younger researchers through training and networking opportunities for students on the range of practice-led research degrees offered within the Faculty of Performance, Visual Arts and Communications.

Some suggestions for discussion:
// How do we document practice?
// How do academic contexts of practice led research affect how it is pursued and evaluated?
// Links between (Practice-led) research-led and teaching // Similarities and differences in practice led research in ‘live’ media (music, theatre, dance, performance) and ‘recording’ media (film, TV, video) // Improvisation and live performance // Are there common techniques, technologies, venues, terminology and audiences that could be shared between disciplines?

The Centre for Practic-Led Research in the Arts is now an official partner of theEuropean Artistic Research Network.
