Institutional Racism in Higher Education Toolkit Project:
Building the Anti-Racist HEI
Laura Turney, Ian Law & Debbie Phillips
This toolkit is one of the major outcomes of a Department for Education and Skills funded Innovations project here in the Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies, Department of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds.
This toolkit aims to assist institutions in the process of anti-racist and race equality planning and action by providing conceptual and methodological 'tools'.
Ownership of and responsibility for planning, action and outcomes, however, lie with the institutions themselves and not with the authors of this toolkit.
This toolkit is free resource for institutions and individuals to use, providing that the authors are acknowledged.

This toolkit is intended to be primarily an 'organic' on-line resource that will be regularly updated. The tools and resources provided are organisational, methodological and conceptual.
The toolkit is broken down into five separate sections plus a section of useful links, a set of printable checklists and a bibliography. Each section and sub-section is numbered sequentially so users should be able to find their way backwards and forwards through the cross-references. You can use your 'back' button in your browser to take you back to the previous section or you can return to the Sections by clicking the links in the navigation bar that can be found at the top and bottom of every page in the toolkit. Web pages that are outside of the 'toolkit' directory will open in a new window.
If you wish to print out the entire toolkit, it is also available in PDF format, please click here to access this.
Please use the clickable links below to access the different sections of the toolkit. Clicking on the section headings will take you to separate web pages where the contents of the section sub-headings can also be accessed.
