My
name is Peter Kravos, and I’m the Catholic chaplain
at the University. Our chaplaincy aims to support Catholics
at the University both spiritually and socially, and to foster
a sense of belonging and support. I was born and brought up
in Leeds, but I’m very proud that all my family actually
come from Slovenia, and I have a great interest and love not
just for our own culture and life, but for all things Eastern
European in general. I am a graduate of Durham University,
was ordained a priest in 1990, and since then I have served
as a parish priest in Leeds & Bradford, except for a two
year course in Canon Law in Ottawa, Canada. My pastoral ministry
in the parishes in which I have served has really been my
life for the past 18 years, though I also act as a Church
lawyer in the Diocese of Leeds and I’m involved in the
work of the Canon Law Society of Great Britain & Ireland.
My inspiration comes from the assurance that Christ made
when He said that He came to bring “a peace the world
cannot give – this is my gift to you.” So, my
attitude is to try to attain and maintain that peace –
which I have personally found in the Catholic Church’s
sacramental, spiritual, and, it should be said, social life,
but also in its deep wisdom and tradition. Otherwise, I am
a bit of a geek, with a fascination with all things technological,
though I very much enjoy keeping fit by running, swimming,
climbing mountains and anything outdoor really, with mountain
biking being my latest obsession. I have been a Leeds Rhinos
(rugby league) fan all my life, though I follow football keenly
as an armchair supporter and have Leeds Utd and Liverpool
FC close to my heart!
