You will need two references: one academic and one relevant experience. Any extra references will not be used. Please see our information on choosing your referees for further details.
The deadline for submitting references is 14 December 2011. Please note that we do not release applications to the course centres until we have received and processed both of the references.
You may wish to send your referees a copy of our Guide for Referees when you contact them to discuss providing your reference. This guides them through the screens referees use in the online system.
When you give your referee's contact details in your application in the online system we will email them to request a reference. Please give your referee's workplace email address as we will not use eg hotmail/gmail accounts for referees. Also, please see our information on using last year's references if you are applying again and asking either of the same referees to provide a reference.
If your referee does not receive the email requesting the reference you can re-send it from the References screen in your application in the online system. However, please ask your referee to check their Junk Email folder first. Also, please do not send the email repeatedly as only the most recently sent email is valid, so this can result in referees having several emails only one of which they can use.
The email will give your referee a link to the online system. This link will take them to the Login screen if they have used the online system before or, if they are using it for the first time, the link will take them to a screen to Register. Your referee cannot start your reference until the email has been sent so please provide their contact details in good time (after having checked with them that they are willing to act as your referee).
Once your referee has registered or logged in, they can start writing your reference. They can then either Save the reference, so they can return to edit it later if necessary, or if it is complete they can Submit it. Once the reference has been submitted it cannot be edited.
If your referee does not have an email address you can inform us of this through the online system. Also, if your referee is, for whatever reason, unable to use the online system please ask them to contact us about providing the reference.
