The National Health Service (NHS) normally pays the course fees as part of the funding for NHS-funded places (so this applies for most trainees on most courses). Some universities charge a fixed fee regardless of who takes up a training place, but some universities use the trainee's fees status to work out the amount they charge. If you have overseas fees status the fee could be higher than if you have home fees status and the NHS may be unwilling to pay the extra amount.
