Yes, to use the website as a referee you need to be registered. Clicking the link in the email we sent you will take you to a screen where you can register as a referee. Your email address should automatically appear on the screen. Please type in your Forename and Surname, then create a password of your choosing in the password box and type it again to Confirm Password in the box below. Click Register and this will take you to a screen with your reference(s) listed at the top.
After you click the link in our email, if your email address is not already on the screen please do not register. Please see FAQ 7 below instead.
If you have used our website before you will already be registered as a referee. If you try to register again the website will confirm that "this email address has already been registered" and you will need to Login instead. In the Log In section of the screen please type in your email address and the password from when you last used the website. Click Log in and this will take you to a screen with your reference(s) listed at the top.
You choose your own password when you register: we do not provide you with a password. For information on how to register as a referee please see FAQ 1 above.
If you cannot remember your password please click "Forgotten your password" on the Login screen. Then enter your email address to get an email to reset your password. Your email software may treat our emails as junk or spam, so if you do not receive the email please check your Junk Email folder and/or Spam Email folder.
You need to use the email address you registered with. This will usually be a work-based email address rather than a personal email. If our website does not recognise your email address it could be that you are registered under a different version of it eg Liverpool University email addresses use both liv.ac.uk and liverpool.ac.uk versions. If our website does not recognise any email address you provide, please contact us to check what email address you are registered with (see the Contact Us page for our details).
Your old email address does not need to be working for you to use our website. You can still login, as long as you can remember your password. Once you have logged in you can update your email address to the new one in the Your Details section. If you cannot remember your password please contact us to discuss this further (see the Contact Us page for our details).
Only the most recent email requesting a reference will have a link that allows you to register as a referee. Do you have a more recent email with a link you can try? If not, please contact us and we will send you a new email requesting the reference (see the Contact Us page for our details).
Your email software may treat our emails as junk or spam, so if you do not receive the email please check your Junk Email folder and/or Spam Email folder.

Once you have finished the reference please click the Submit button at the end of the screen. This confirms that you are happy that the reference is correct and complete, and allows us to process it. Clicking Save only saves the reference so you can come back later and edit it further. You cannot edit the reference after you have submitted it.
You can only submit a reference once all the questions have been answered. When you click Submit, if any of the questions have not been answered a red message will appear on screen to let you know what is missing. Most questions have a "not applicable" or similar option if necessary.
The website can only save your answers when you click Save so if it takes some time to write your comments there is a risk that your internet connection may be lost before you have saved your text. We therefore suggest that you either:
