In honour of Ronald Martin's 90th birthday, the School of Classics at Leeds hosted a double-seminar afternoon on Tacitus on Wednesday, 23rd November 2005.
Speakers were A. J. Woodman (Virginia), on 'Tacitus and the contemporary scene' and Rhiannon Ash (UCL) on 'Birthdays and Special Occasions in Tacitus'
The seminar papers were duly followed by Professor Martin's ceremonial cutting of (surely) the world's first and only cake dedicated to the first book of Tacitus' Annals.
