12 Months Full Time
Why study?

The course is aimed at two kinds of students; for those who have read:

  • theology and/or religious studies at undergraduate level: it enables you to pursue philosophical issues arising from your studies
  • philosophy at undergraduate level: it enables you to fill gaps in your studies, and to develop a specialised interest in the philosophy of religion.
What you study

The course includes three compulsory modules in the philosophy of religion, pursuing metaphysical, epistemological and moral themes.

Examples of the kinds of topics encountered are: agnosticism, reformed epistemology, the nature of religious experience, the idea of perceiving God, and the relation between faith and reason; divine command theory, the Euthyphro dilemma, the moral perfection of God; metaphysical issues arising from the doctrines of Incarnation and Creation.

You will complete a 12-15,000 word research dissertation on a subject of your choice.

Modules offered

Career opportunities

The course is primarily designed for those who want to pursue their studies further, without necessarily expecting to progress to a PhD - though this route is by no means ruled out.

It is very suitable for those who are interested in teaching philosophy or religious studies in schools.
