You should normally have a minimum of a lower second class honours degree (or an equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject.
Provision is made for those students without a strong background in design.
Certification of English language proficiency by the IELTS or TOEFL test is required. IELTS 6.5 with no band lower than 6.
You are required to submit a portfolio of recent practical work relating to your educational and/or employment experience.
This internationally regarded Masters course meets global design needs in relation to marketing, management and manufacture. The unique study programme provides a rich diversity of multi-disciplinary experience and reflects the vision and intellect of its participating designers and researchers.
The course has the flexibility and depth to respond to individual student interests, whilst fully reflecting external contextual trends - so broadening the employment prospects of Masters-qualified professionals.
This exciting course is structured to enable you to focus on your chosen design specialism. It comprises three related elements: a choice of taught modules that will enable you to develop a range of conceptual and practical design tools; a specialist design project chosen by you and negotiated with staff, in which the tools and skills are applied; and a reflective report through which you will critically reflect on the design project and the application of the design tools.
You may choose to study from a wide range of specialist areas through the negotiated project. These include: fashion design; textile design; graphic design; multi-media design; design management; product design; fashion marketing; and printed textile design.
The core modules studied are: Research Methodology; a negotiated project; and a reflective report/dissertation.
The optional modules include: Digital Design Practice; Design Issues; Sustainable Design; and Marketing for Designers.

The course operates over two semesters and a shorter summer period.
In the first semester you will undertake taught modules which prepare you to negotiate your chosen project.
Research Methodology, the core module, introduces you to methodologies and tools employed in design research and the issues surrounding them. This module will also determine the aims and objectives of your negotiated project - the core module undertaken in the second semester.
In the second semester you undertake your project and present the solutions at the end of the semester. In the summer period you will write up a reflective report on the whole experience of preparation, negotiation, methodology(ies) used, design development, solution(s) and testing.
Assessment is carried out by coursework, a negotiated project and a reflective report/dissertation.
This course will enable you to develop skills required to pursue a career in many fields, including: design practice, product development, fashion marketing, design management, project management, education and training, and academic research in Design.
