  • 'Candidate of Sciences' in Ukrainian Linguistics, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences

In my professional life I have worked on a number of projects in surprisingly different research areas and places. My latest passion is Machine Translation, in particular the evaluation of MT systems, using Information Extraction technology for MT. But before coming to Leeds I worked at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences on computational linguistics and syntax, and later in a Belgian language technology company developing text-to-speech and automatic speech recognition systems. My favourite research paper was published when I was a student in Kyiv University; it was about diphthongs in Northern Ukrainian dialects and in the history of Ukrainian. Another paper, written around that time, was on application of Analytical Philosophy to analysis of post-totalitarian texts.

  • I am currently working with a not-for-profit consortium TAUS (Translation Automation User Society) on adapting CTS technologies and tools for the use in translation industry.
  • I have previously contributed to several consultancy projects on the evaluation of MT within the workflow of professional translators.
